*Liability includes both Bodily Injury and Property Damage*
● Bodily Injury Liability Pays when an insured person, while operating an insured vehicle, is found to be legally responsible for an injury or death which is they cause to someone. This coverage also pays court costs and attorney fees if you are sued.
This coverage is limited to the amount you purchase. For example, if the policy your purchase shows a limit of 100/300, this means that for each person injured or killed in the accident for which you are found to be legally responsible for causing, your insurance policy would pay up to a maximum of $100,000 for each individual irregardless as to how many people are injured or killed. However, if more than one person is injured or killed the maximum amount available for the entire accident would be $300,000. You can see the importance of having an adequate limit of insurance available in order to protect your assets, which could include your future earnings.
● Property Damage Liability Pays when an insured person is legally responsible for damage to the property of others caused by your insured vehicle. Just like Bodily Injury Liability, this coverage also pays for your legal defense costs if you are sued. Property is any item, other than a human being.
This coverage is limited to the amount you purchase. The policy limit for property damage is shown as the third number in the coverage example of 100/300/50. This policy example would have a maximum limit of $50,000 available for damage to property of others. Once again you can see the importance of having an adequate limit available in the event of a loss.
● Medical Payments Coverage Pays certain medical and funeral expenses resulting from a motor vehicle accident. This coverage protects anyone occupying your vehicle. It also covers you and relatives who reside in your household while in other vehicles or if struck as a pedestrian or while riding a bicycle. These benefits are payable without regard to fault. This coverage may not be available in states that require Personal Injury Protection Benefits.
● Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury Coverage Protects you, your resident relatives, or the occupants of a covered vehicle when the owner or operator of another motor vehicle who hits your vehicle is responsible for causing the accident and either has no insurance or not enough bodily injury liability limits to pay for the injuries sustained by you or the occupants of your covered vehicle.
● Coverage descriptions provided are general in nature only. Any description provided here does not amend, alter or modify the terms of your insurance contract. Be sure to read your policy for further definitions, limitations and exclusions. |
